Due to freezing rain and hazardous road conditions, MWCS is closed for the day. There are 3 snow days remaining.

Due to inclement weather, there is a 1 hr. delay at MWCS. Gr. 6-12 teachers are on a 2 hr. delay and may report with the Elem. teachers at 9:30. There is no morning Pre-K. Only students taking Regents exam are required to attend school. Students taking exams are to come in on the elementary bus run, now delayed by 1 hour. There is no morning or afternoon BOCES.

Good Luck to all students as they prepare for their Mid-term or end of marking period exams. NY State Regents Exams are offered this week. Please check with your student’s teacher or schedule to determine if your son/daughter will be taking this very important exam.

Rainforest at MWCS

MWCS is hosting the Rainforest Program Friday, January 20, 2012 at 6:30 PM. Admission is $5.00 per person. Live animals from the Rainforest will be on site for all to view and enjoy. Please come for an interesting evening of entertainment. Many thanks to Mr. Paul Jones for his efforts in bringing the Rainforest to MWCS.

Executive Budget Proposal

I am encouraged that the Governor has made education a priority in his budget and on his political agenda. I was hopeful that he listened and heard our concerns regarding education funding equity for the low wealth, high needs school districts. He has increased state aid by 4 %, however, without changing the Foundation Aid Formula or the formula for the Gap Elimination Adjustment, rural high needs school districts are still left with insufficient resources to provide the sound basic education that the Governor espouses in his statements. I am very grateful for the advocacy of our state legislators on behalf of our District.

I am also concerned that Governor Cuomo appears to generalize in his presentation of statewide data regarding poor student achievement, and District mismanagement. North Country schools perform well in both student outcomes and district efficiency. As the Governor stated, we are indeed committed to providing opportunities for all students.

Projections have not been completed for the MWCS budget. We await the administrative details. We are encouraged with the Governor’s commitment to expense driven aids such as transportation and BOCES which are very important to our rural districts.

Due to inclement weather there will be no after school activities today. Afternoon UPK is canceled. Students and staff will be dismissed at regular times. The Regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting will be held in the District Library at 7 PM.

Thanks to snow, sleet, freezing rain and cold, we have had a longer break than we anticipated! For those who are counting, we have four emergency days remaining for the school year. We will continue to keep our eye on the weather so all can be safe. Please be careful on the roads out there. Winter has arrived to Northern New York!

January 13, 2012 Due to current freezing rain and winter weather advisory throughout the early evening, Madrid-Waddington CS is CLOSED for the day. School will resume on Tuesday, January 14. Have a safe, restful weekend. At this time, the Speech and Debate Tournament will still take place as scheduled for Saturday, January 14. The All County Chorus will go on as planned tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 14, as long as the weather permits. Informational updates will be posted on the area radio stations. Attempts will be made to contact each student to keep them advised.
